If you light a lamp for somebody, it will also brighten your path.

What is a NGO?

A NGO is a 'Non Governmental Organization' who work for the benefit of under-privileged children, women, men, and families. These NGOs are an attempt to bring such people together and help them as far as possible by providing facilities of either food, clothing, shelter, education or employment and improving their deprived lives.

A visit to one such NGO exposes children to the realities of life. You can spend a complete day at one of these places and do as much as possible to help others. You can either participate in teaching things to those younger than you, teach artwork which you must have learnt in your posh classrooms, help in adult literacy programs, or simple spend time with those in need, read stories to them, arrange for dance performances, plays etc. You can also bring along their old story books, crayons, mats, clothes, uniforms, tiffin boxes and several other things which can be distributed through the NGO among people who cannot afford them. In addition to giving, you can also purchase several souvenirs made by the children from the NGO and the money gained is directed towards the NGO's fund.

A day spent helping a NGO is a different experience altogether. You will realize how blessed you are indeed.and how you can help those who aren't half as fortunate as you!

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one at the end of your arm... You will discover that you have two hands. One for helping yourself, the other for helping others.
