Earth allows you to stand. Let it stand the way it is
Every sheet of paper wasted, every tree chopped, every bit of electricity wasted, every drop of water gone down the drain, every old T-shirt thrown away, every plastic bag flicked on the road, every chocolate wrapper flown outside the window goes and complains to someone. Know to whom? The three-eyed-green-monster! And if you don't stop doing everything mentioned above, the three-eyed-green-monster will crawl up your bed at night! Beware!
Go Green
Precisely why we want all little tots out there to 'go green'?
Mother earth, as they joke, has been sending SOS's to us, pleading us to save her from resting in her grave! But isn't this true? Imagine if you were to choke on a plastic bag? Wouldn't you scream for help?
So is our planet! And, it is our responsibility to do what lies in our capacity to spread awareness regarding our environment. This, even if done within the four walls of every home, is more than enough to take care of our ecology.
Children should be made to realize the importance of the environment they live in, respect it and be grateful towards it. They should be taught ways and means of preserving, recycling, reusing several commodities.
Measures to be commonly adopted: read more >>
Some of the following measures can be commonly adopted:
- Garbage
It should be sorted into two bins: dry waste and wet waste. Sorting them helps in the process of efficient waste disposal, either recycling or allowing it to decompose.
Dry waste consists of waste paper, sachets, cartons, packets etc. Paper should not be unceremoniously wasted. Paper from old notebooks should be collected and used for rough work. Old newspapers should either be donated or used to make paper bags. Plastic bags should not be used to dispose waste. Use of polythene bags should be completely avoided. Plastic bottles and cans should not be thrown into garbage bins, but should be used as pen holders and flower vases. Tin cans should be sent for recycling or can be used to make toys, play games etc.
Wet waste consists of vegetable or fruit peelings and other things which are bio-degradable waste. They should be used as fertilizers as they are organic in nature and provide natural nourishment to plants.
Water from taps should not be allowed to flow free. Leaking taps should be repaired. Waste water should be used for purposes like watering plants or bathing cattle. They can be reused after proper treatment. Read more>>

Electricity, once wasted, is gone forever. Therefore, it should be used wisely. Fans and lights should be switched off when not in use. Use of electrical appliances should be restricted. Electricity should be conserved during daylight hours. Use of solar or thermal energy is essential.
Little things, though may not seem important, should be taken care off. Old clothes should be donated, recycled or re-modeled. Border designs from an old dress or sari or shoe laces can be used to decorate a card. Buttons from an old shirt can be used to replace lost ones. Beads can be sown together to form a new accessory. Broken glass can be used in an art project. Cardboard boxes can be used for storage purposes. So on and so forth.
These things take very little time, yet contribute a lot towards spreading awareness regarding our environment and creating ecological balance. 'Going Green' is an effective way of replying back to the SOS sent to us by Mother Earth!
So, the next time you use the colour green, ask yourself a question,
"How green am I ?"
Let's paint the world green.let's Go Green!
