They may not be able to run and hop around.
They may not recite rhymes flawlessly.
They may not know 1+1=2.
But deep within, they are just like you.
They are, 'Children of a lesser God.'

The term 'Children of a lesser God' denotes those children who are mentally or physically challenged. Their mental abilities may either not coincide with their age group, or they may suffer from physical deformities which makes it difficult for them to live life like we do. They may suffer from mental retardation at an early age, may suffer from learning disabilities, be visually challenged, handicapped and many more things.

There are special facilities of schooling and boarding for such children. They live together, which makes them feel that they are not alone, there are people who take care of them, who help them deal with life, educate them, help them overcome their handicaps, both mental or physical. By visiting one such school, you are bound to spread a smile in many a hearts! You can not only help them overcome their loneliness, but can also encourage them to lead their life as normal people do. You could simply talk to them, try to understand what they want say, teach them some new skills or methods of learning, perform for them, conduct simple puppet shows, plays or dances which they will be able to understand. Meanwhile, you can also learn several skills they are trained in like communicating through the sign language, voluntary donation of books, storybooks, crayons, clothes, food, bags etc is always welcomed.

Devoting your free time to such a cause is a purely selfless act, something only children are capable of! These children may find it hard to communicate to you the joy they feel when you visit them, but believe us, their smiles speak a thousand words.
